PATRICK J. JONES is an award-winning figurative artist author and teacher. He grew up in Belfast, Northern Ireland, during the violent 30-year conflict known as "the Troubles" before moving to London to pursue a life in art.Today, Patrick works from his studio in sunny Brisbane, Australia, where he paints for private collectors and publishers and teaches his virtual 'Anatomy of Style' figure drawing course online at CGMA. He also teaches figure drawing at Brisbane's prestigious university, QUT, and at his 'Anatomy of Style' workshops. Patrick has received various awards for his art and has been guest of honour at Dragoncon in the USA. He also travels to the USA bi-yearly to exhibit, and meet fellow artists, art collectors and fans at the IX gallery in Pennsylvania.

Patrick Jones new book is top quality and understanding of how to draw the figure. The ideas that he presents fourth year are good for beginners and advanced people in case there wanting to learn a different ideas or techniques from the great masters of our time. This book as well as his others on painting and drawing have a vast knowledge and understanding this sometimes hard to find in most books.I personally can’t recommend them enough and hope you will find them just as helpful out there for yourself. His work is up there with all the modern-day fantasy artists that you can name from Frank Frazetta, Boris, Brom and many others that could be named. The basic difference between him and other modern-day artists is to give some more detail ideas of his process and in turn allows you to integrate your drawing system with these ideas.Figure drawing itself is probably the most important thing anyone can learn in the fantasy genre, Classical Art and painting. With all the books that are out there this one should be in your library and in your hands being read as well as the others he has written. Grab those books also.
I have long been a fan of Patrick Jones' artwork and have several of his other books, so I was thrilled to add this one to my collection and what a magnificent book it is. Packed with beautiful artwork and teachings. Patrick isn't just a phenomenal artist he is also a fantastic teacher!
I purchased this book with great expectations (having bought his "Sci-fi and Fantasy oil painting techniques") and I was not disappointed. The book starts out with gesture drawings and progresses to more detailed subjects. It is full color and glossy and has both detail of anatomy and step by step walk troughs of sketches. If you have paid through the nose for art reference books as I have I will let you know this is beyond worth the small price. Just buy it already!
This is the book I've been waiting for and in my humble opinion this book will get you back on track. bouth beginners and professionals will find Patrick Jones Stile New and Inspirational.The Illustrations are Superb and the Instructions are easy to follow plus I can see more Patrick Jones titles to complete my collection

Great for learning firgure drawing
There are many good figure drawing books out there; most focus on anatomy and structure. This book, one of my favorites on the subject, is among the few to help the student accomplish a correct drawing through a more dynamic, gestural approach. I think it is best suited to the intermediate artist; familiar with the figure, yet looking to bring not only more accuracy to their drawing, but a more living, dynamic quality of line.
This book is the perfect balance of process and artwork. Sometimes I find a great drawing book but it’s all page after page of how-to. Figures from Life has great quality finished work, and a lot of it. I’ve seen Patrick’s drawing process in person now, and can say after flipping through his book, you really get a feel for the movement in the drawings.
