I love Ali Dean’s sports romances. It’s been that way since I read the first in her Pepper Jones series and walked away totally addicted both to the romance and the feeling of really being an insider on the sport (cross country in that case). That’s probably why I glommed on Black Diamond when I saw it. If anything this book was even better than the Pepper Jones books (a very high bar as those books are so superb that I’ve re-read that series several times). So much so that I’ve addictively binge read through Double Black and Black Ice too. Why? Because not only do we once again get so far into the head of a top athlete as to really feel like an insider in the sport itself, in this case skiing, but we also get high business intrigue and a real thriller of a suspense. Roxie and Ryker’s romance in Stark Springs Academy series is also simply beautifully done. The series has reached a logical stopping point at book 3, but I’m not going to call it a trilogy as I’m hoping for more (hey, there’s precedent here: the Pepper Jones stories reached logical stopping points at times but the author still found ways to continue the series with new novels that worked beautifully). But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises - each of the books in this series definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that this series is most definitely one to read, and it is easy to highly recommend each book.

Full Review available at [...]Ali Dean is one author that I have all her books on preorder, so this one was no different. When I read Black Diamond I was lost in so much of the terminology and lingo of skiers, but I think this go around I got a better grip on what they are referring too.Ryker and Roxanna (Roxie) are an item. It has only been a few days and things are already drastically changing. Those at the academy are noticing the shift in power of the “Pose” group (a.k.a the popular kids). Roxie has put her foot down on changes and Ryker is allowing them to happen no questions asked.Roxie and Ryker each have to go away for their respected competitions in Ski and Snowboarding. Her heading to Europe and his in Canada. Well things get a little rocky. Surprise after surprise starts coming to Roxie some being good and others being painful. How did I feel about this book? Hmmm…. I am a HUGE FAN of Ali Dean, so it is so hard to not like one of her books. This one there were just somethings I wasn’t a fan of. I honestly hope that Ali Dean (in the next book) gives us a chapter or 2 from the POV of Ryker. The guy makes no since to me. One minute he is a total douche and the next he is sweeping Roxie off her feet. The guy kind of gives me whiplash.Roxie is just as stubborn as she was in the first book. She was already pushing buttons with the school and those that conform to the system, but in this book she is now reorganizing everything. Many are happy about the change, but there are a few that are having a problem. Ryker has his own changes as well, regarding his father, the company, Petra’s parents, and his own adolescence. This is a guy that never got a real childhood. What I did like was, when Ryker made the choice (and announced) his decision about the Stark Inc., and the change in his demeanor. His personality and playfulness was more evident. Even with all the baggage, secrets, and responsibilities he has, Ryker still has positive attributes. We see him through Roxie’s eyes, and even though she is biased because of her affection for him, I think the guy will grow on me. By the end we discover one of the secrets he has been keeping, and let me tell you it is a crazy. There is always a villain or an antagonist and in this story that is no exception. Petra, the Stark’s female ski team captain, is Roxie’s enemy number one. She is conniving, but becomes desperate. Desperate people make poor choices and that is what happens to Petra. The story has some crazy parts. We have injuries, sabotages, and scandal. We are left on a mini cliff hanger. Not drastic enough to keep you up at night or to send desperate mail to Ali about when the next book to coming out, but it enough to want more.I will say I read and reread ALL the Pepper Jones series and some of those I prefer more than others and in this case that is no exception. I love Ali’s writing. I love how she use strong, independent athletic girls as her protagonist. I love the mix of mix of the athletic drive in her stories. So you are asking, should you buy this book?Yes.Why?Because regardless of character flaws of Rykerthere is many more positives. Also, its Ali Dean and I just love her writing. '

This was a great follow up to the first book. We finally see Ryker open up and Roxie is getting her moxie. I really enjoyed this book. I liked learning all of the skiing lingo. Made me respect professional skiers even more really.Watching how the social system change and evolve at a school like Stark was very interesting. But eventually I felt like it was boring. I felt like this series was more about Stark, how Ryker was shaped by it and how Roxie is trying to fit in. It's less about the relationship between the couple. But also about the people around them. This series feels a bit less personal than the Pepper series.Don't get me wrong. This is still a great series. It just seems a bit more like watching a TV show that you're 75% into. The other 25% would have made you sit on the edge, biting your nails, begging for the show to finish so you will know how it ends. This series is like that. The Pepper series had that 25%. You felt like you were actually friends with Pepper. Roxie and Ryker? Not so much.I have to admit though that I couldn't help, but worry about Roxie since certain people at the school went too far. That's the only time I truly cared about her which is messed up. This doesn't mean that I won't buy the third book. I will still buy it because Ali Den is an amazing writer and I'm kinda curious if the story gets more intense in the next one.

When I read this book, I thought it was a cross between mafia book and Tijan's Fallen Crest Series. Ryker being the hot tough guy, Roxie as the beautiful new girl, secrets that people want to remain hidden and all the drama makes this story so very intriguing. As soon as I finished this book I was already purchasing the next two books.

Rosie and Ryker are so cute together. They del like your average HS couple. I will say the I think Rosie expected to much too fast. The guy has a full plate and after being exclusive for a week she's expecting him to share all of his deepest secrets. I really like Ryker. He was trying so hard, and sacrificing so much. I'm not really sure as to what's left to happen in a 3rd book.

Great read! Plot is thin but it is rich in character development. Please write more as you've managed to capture/ enrapture my curiosity as to where (as far as their future careers n Stark) take them. I eagerly look forward to more of where the sports competition goes!

I think I liked this better than the first book. The characters seemed more real, and it seemed like there was more to this book than the first one. Great book, can't wait for the next one.
