I know a little bit about blockchains, but this book gave me the big picture like I’ve never understood before. The author makes it really interesting. I came away feeling like I just had one of the best discussions I’ve ever had about blockchain. There is a lot in this book.It starts off with some great stories, and then does some scene-setting that gives you a feel for why this is all taking off now (and got me pretty excited about what’s to come, actually). There’s a chapter that explains exactly what a blockchain is (I already sort of knew but not that really).Then it takes you through a bunch of macro level stuff that blockchains could change, covering customer mindsets, business models, and new business strategies. It gives examples that cover a broad range of industries so it really helps you understand what this can really do and how it could change things.I really think, after reading this, that this is the beginning of the next big movement. It’s cool to get this insider peek now, right at the beginning. One of my favorite chapters was “Bigger Dataâ€, where the author talks about how blockchains could impact all the data that is being collected on us and that companies like Facebook have. It blew me away that something like this was possible, and gives me hope that maybe some big problems in our digital lives can be fixed one day. There are some nice wrap ups at the end. A checklist of things to consider as you think about how it all applies to you, and a really thoughtful parting chapter at the end. Well organized and very well written. Definitely recommend.

And blockchain was no exception.Alison McCauley's treatise on this tangled subject finally helped me understand the basics––with her plain english tutorial beginning on page 2––where she wrote "Data is recorded in blocks, and then chained together...". And during Chapter 7, she applies these early lessons to explain how blockchain can help "Kill fake news" as one powerful example. She makes the complex simple to understand through proper storytelling.This book is a gift to those who want to understand what time it is, without mastering the mechanism of how a clock works.

Read this book first. If you want to get more into technical detail later, there are a lot of other books that do that. But if you start with the more technical books you will be lost forever. The author gives you context and setting so you can absorb it all (and remember it) much better!
I finally understand the Blockchain hype. A must read for anyone whose business will soon depend on it. (That's everyone.) Added bonus - my daughter in STEM saw me reading Unblocked and is now interested in the topic. Thank you, Alison McCauley, for creating such a readable book about such an important topic!
Readable, insightful. A nice overview of the applicability of blockchain as it exists today. Great balance between the low levels of the technology and the business case for using the blockchain.
A super informative book written in a way that really helped even me (a total novice) understand the blockchain.
Ok, only half way through, but can’t put down...finally feel like someone has explained all these buzz words I was too embarrassed to ask about. Well written and engaging, already looking forward to her next book.
